Every Book Is Different—AS Is Every Estimate
I help authors with as much—or as little—of the publishing process as they need. Whether you’re starting with handwritten pages, only want a simple author website, or you’re ready to produce a finished book, you’ll get detail-focused editing, thoughtful design, and practical print support—handled with care from start to finish.
Every project is unique, so pricing is based on the scope, complexity, and level of support required. Some authors need straightforward formatting and production assistance, while others need comprehensive guidance that includes editing, design, print coordination, and publishing consultation.
Before any work begins, I provide a clear, customized estimate for review and discussion, so you know exactly what to expect. My goal is to offer professional publishing support that fits your project, your goals, and your budget.
Here are just some of the services I provide:
Guidance on timelines, budgets, ISBNs, barcodes, printing options, and the overall publishing process—whether a quick conversation to confirm next steps or deeper support planning your book from draft to finished copies.
As part of the book production process, I provide careful proofreading and light copyediting for clarity, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency across text, captions, notes, and references. My focus is on preparing the manuscript for publication while preserving the author’s voice.
For manuscripts requiring more extensive editing, I can coordinate developmental editing, line editing, and comprehensive copyediting through my network of experienced professional editors.
Custom typographic systems and page layouts designed for readability, longevity, and the character of each book, including complex layouts with images, captions, footnotes, maps, and tables. Thoughtful design and clear communication from manuscript through final production.
I’ll carefully transcribe your handwritten manuscript into a clean digital document, preserving your voice and creating a solid foundation for review, sharing, and publication.
I prepare print-ready book files for platforms such as Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Barnes & Noble Press, Lulu, and others, ensuring files meet platform specifications and are correctly sized, formatted, and exported for a smooth publishing process.
Image preparation and enhancement for high-quality print reproduction, including color and tonal adjustments, cropping, resizing, resolution optimization, and other preparation needed for your book’s design. Extensive photo restoration, retouching, scanning, or unusually image-intensive projects may require additional fees and will always be discussed in advance.
Printer selection and coordination based on project specifications and budget, including print brokering when appropriate. I provide prepress review, quality control, and detailed proof review to identify and resolve potential issues before printing. Oversight continues through final production to confirm specifications, address questions, and help ensure consistent print quality in the finished book.
For books suited to digital formats, I create clean, readable eBooks thoughtfully structured and formatted for major distribution platforms, with careful attention to navigation, consistency, and the reading experience.
A well-designed website provides a welcoming place for visitors to learn about you, your business, and your work. I create custom WordPress websites that are thoughtfully organized, easy to navigate, mobile-friendly, and designed to reflect who you are and what you do.
I provide practical marketing guidance to help authors position their books and connect with their target audience, along with promotional design services including social media graphics, bookmarks, banners, trade show materials, and other marketing collateral to support a book launch and beyond.
Book design is much more than placing text on a page. Each book begins with the development of a custom design system tailored to the manuscript and its audience. This includes page size and margins, typography and font selection, chapter openings, headings, headers and footers, and the treatment of elements such as quotations, footnotes, lists, tables, captions, and images.
Once that foundation is established, the entire book is carefully typeset and refined page by page. Attention is given to hyphenation and justification, word and letter spacing, line and page breaks, widows and orphans, placement of footnotes and images, and the many small typographic details that affect readability and visual balance. Project estimates also account for multiple rounds of proofing, corrections, and revisions as the book moves from initial layout through final, press-ready files. The finished interior should feel effortless to read—but creating that experience requires both design judgment and careful production work.
A straightforward book—such as a novel, memoir, or other primarily text-based manuscript—typically has a consistent structure once the overall design has been established. Books containing photographs, illustrations, tables, charts, footnotes, sidebars, multiple heading levels, special typography, or other varied content require considerably more individual design and production attention.
Every book is different, so I estimate projects based on the scope, complexity, and specific requirements of the work rather than using a fixed per-page price.
For initial budgeting purposes, approximately $25 per finished page is a useful guideline for a straightforward, primarily text-based book requiring custom interior design and production. Books with extensive imagery, complex typography, multiple content types, or other specialized design requirements are estimated individually.
After reviewing your manuscript and project specifications, I provide a detailed project estimate based on the actual work your book will require.
When you’re ready, let’s talk.
